Biography

Jill Sutherland is a versatile multimedia artist and accomplished portrait photographer who believes that exposing our intimate experiences weaves humanity into a vibrant tapestry of life. Transforming her internal struggles into a powerful drive to push beyond conventional boundaries she states, “ The more personal the art, the more universal the message.” Her recent works examine the interplay of light and shadow while exploring themes of archetypes, eroticism, addiction and the profound ache of losing connection to one’s inner truth.

Emerging from 16 years of experience in industrial metalworking, Sutherland initially honed her craft in an energy-rich environment that served as a path for healing childhood wounds. This path later took a turn following the passing of her mother, inspiring her to embrace feminine energy in her art to a greater degree.

Her creative pursuits are infused with compassion, drawing solace from her struggles while inviting connection with others. Using diverse photographic techniques, she illuminates the complexities of human existence, exploring dualities of masculine and feminine, light and shadow, connection and detachment in the modern world.

As part of the Staveley and Sutherland partnership, she collaborates on large-scale murals and celebrated interactive installations. Their recent project, "Circle of Doors Tarot," was honored at Burning Man as an Honorarium Exhibition in 2014 and 2022 and celebrates the divine feminine illuminating intuition.

In the intricate tapestry of creativity, Jill Sutherland shines as a radiant thread, capturing emotional depth and resilience through her art. Currently, she is exploring experimental mixed media, blending photography, printing techniques, found objects, and collage.
