Biography
Jill Sutherland is a distinguished multimedia artist and portrait photographer whose work intricately weaves personal experiences into a rich tapestry of universal themes. She captures the essence of human vulnerability, asserting that "The more personal the art, the more universal the message."
Sutherland's recent projects delve into the dynamic interplay of light and shadow, exploring archetypes, eroticism, and the complex journey through pain, healing, and loss of inner truth. As half of the dynamic duo Staveley and Sutherland, she and Anne Staveley are celebrated for their large-scale photography murals and award-winning interactive installations. Their acclaimed project, "Circle of Doors Tarot," was honored at Burning Man as an Honorarium Exhibition in 2014 and 2022, highlighting their fine art Tarot deck and celebrating the profound intuition of the divine feminine.
Currently, Sutherland is pushing the boundaries of experimental mixed media, merging photography, innovative printing techniques, and collage with found objects to create transformative art.
A powerful image can transcend time, carrying people beyond this generation into the past or catapulting them into the future. That is legacy.”
